Meet Olivia

Olivia, U6 linguist

Olivia joined Headington in U4 from an independent prep school. She is currently studying for A Levels in English, French, History and Spanish, along with the EPQ. Outside the classroom, she learns piano, is on the Tennis team and Swimming club, takes part in Rubbish Runners, Film Society and Literary Society and competed in the UK Linguistics Olympiad.

On Languages at Headington

The Language Department at Headington School is fantastic. There is definitely a particular focus on the broader culture as well as just the language itself. Teaching is what makes learning a language at Headington so engaging. The teachers are incredibly passionate about the subject which inspires the students to feel the same. The language assistants are especially approachable and the 1 to 1 lessons are crucial to build confidence when speaking a language. The Languages Department goes above and beyond. Whether you need 1 to 1 speaking lessons, personal tutoring or an interest in the UK Linguistics Olympiad. They are there to help you and consistently offer new and interesting clubs or societies to help develop your language skills.

On what makes Headington special

In my opinion, what makes Headington so special is the sense of community. Headington is a genuinely welcoming place. Due to extracurricular activities and house events, I genuinely feel I have created strong relationships throughout the School.

 On her aspirations

I am already a French Befriender (I tutor younger students who need help) however I would love to develop this role further. I would like to potentially create an extracurricular activity for those who would love to develop their language skills but without the stress of an exam at the end. I feel as if there are lots of people who would love to learn a language however don’t feel as if they want to take it for GCSE or A Level.

I am very passionate about my languages therefore I would love to go to university abroad and become fluent in either French or Spanish. However I am also interested in studying French/Spanish with History which would entail a year abroad.
