Young Orchestral Day 2019

On Wednesday 19th June, the Music Department hosted children from three local primary schools – St Aloysius, St Nicholas and Botley – as well as our own Prep School, for our annual Young Orchestral Day.

Girls from our U3 and L4 Sinfonietta worked alongside our visitors to form a giant orchestra and to learn some exciting pieces for an afternoon performance. The morning consisted of sectional rehearsals led by our own instrumental teachers and after lunch we joined together to rehearse in the Hall.

Visiting parents and staff came to hear an informal concert in the afternoon, in which we showcased the five pieces: ‘Supercalifragilistic’, ‘Norwegian Dance’, ‘Folk Songs from Around the World’, ‘Colours of the Wind’ and ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’. Visiting musicians had a fantastic time, saying it was ‘the best school day ever’ and ‘we wish we could do this everyday!’

Director of Music, Mrs Aimee Jamison said: “The sound of over 100 instruments together was fantastic! Thank you to all our musicians and staff who took part and helped to make the day a great success. We’re looking forward to next year.”
