Year 8 Lulworth Cove Trip

The Year 8 field trip to Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door was a brilliant opportunity to explore a stunning World Heritage Site and one of the UK’s most iconic coastal landscapes.

From sketching dramatic landforms to learning how erosion and rock types shape the coastline, pupils experienced geography in action – all under sunny skies.

The day began with a scenic walk from Durdle Door to Lulworth Cove, which many pupils described as a highlight.

Jessica P commented: “It was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen (apart from my dog),” while another said simply, “the views were incredible.”

Girls took part in a series of fieldwork activities during the afternoon, including sketching, scavenger hunts and environmental surveys.

These were both fun and educational: “I enjoyed sketching in different locations. It was relaxing to be drawing with my friends in such a beautiful landscape,” Yasmin B said.

Another said: “I enjoyed the scavenger hunt and it was very engaging. Sketching the scenery around us was definitely the highlight of my trip!”

There was plenty of curiosity and enthusiasm throughout the day. Several pupils were surprised to learn about the scale of human impact on the area.

One said: “I didn’t realise how many paths had been worn down by people – it really made me think.”

The trip left a lasting impression, with students summing it up in three words: “fun,” “beautiful,” and “engaging.” Sophie P simply called it the “best school trip.”
