Year 8 Enterprise Project

Over the Easter holidays, Year 8 pupils were tasked to undertake an entrepreneurial challenge to raise money for their chosen local charity, Oxford Children’s Hospital.

The challenge proved to be a test of their courage, resilience and creativity.

Prior to the holidays they spent a week brainstorming and mapping out their ideas for their businesses. Popular ideas included bake sales, dog walking, and bracelet selling.

Each pupil was given £8 seed money, taken from the money raised by last year’s cohort, to invest in their business which they would share and promote to their friends, family and community.

Notable outcomes include Anna, who bought and then recycled unwanted clothes from her family by selling them on eBay, and Molly who purchased Easter activity books and organised a scavenger hunt in her village.

Overall Veva was the best performing individual, raising just over £1,400 by making an excellent animation about Oxford Children’s Hospital to jazz up her GoFundMe page.

She undertook a comical challenge which involved doing a press up for every £10 donated.

With her help, L4DB raised £2,782, the highest form group total, L4RK were second and L4AMB in a close third.

Other outstanding individuals include Zoe and Phoebe who raised £500 and £250 respectively.

After the holidays the girls were given one extra week before bringing the cash into school to be collected and counted.

In the end the year group raised over £8,300, beating the fundraising challenge record of over £7,000 set by the previous year.

The project really developed everyone’s management and marketing skills which will come in very handy in the future and it was a great experience to help them feel what running a business is like.
