Year 5 trip to Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies

Year 5 were lucky enough to visit the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies to support their project on Islamic Design and Architecture.

The children were given a tour of the stunning building, mosque and gardens. During the visit the children had an opportunity to sit in the sunshine and create observational drawings of various parts of the building.

They were able to view some of the key architectural features of Islamic design that they had previously looked at together in class such as minarets, domes and pointed archways.

The children had a wonderful morning and produced some excellent artwork. Lara said “I loved looking at the architecture, the domes and minarets and in particular, the beautiful fountains and the Rhyl” and Ari reported that “Seeing the art and architecture for real was very exciting!”
