Under 13 County Hockey Tournament

On Friday 7th February the U13 A and B Hockey Teams competed in the annual County Tournament, held at Bloxham School. The As entered the competition keen to fight for a place at regionals, and the Bs were confident after an impressive undefeated 2019/2020 season. The Bs were one of only two ‘B teams’ entered into this tournament, showing the depth and strength of Hockey at Headington. The As were led by Millie and the Bs by Natalie.

The A team lost their first game 2-1 to Tudor Hall. Spurred on, they bounced back, winning 2-1 against a challenging Cokethorpe team. They continued this form into game three, defeating Oxford High School Bs comfortably. Headington then faced a strong A side from the same school, a team which had bested them twice so far this season. Unfortunately for the girls in blue, Oxford High won this closely-contested match 2-1. However, this produced some of the best Hockey the girls had played all year and was testament to the progress they have made as a group. Headington A then lost their final two games to a strong Oratory Prep School and Bloxham.

The B team put on a strong showing against seven other Oxfordshire teams, winning one, drawing one and losing five of their matches. The girls maintained a high standard of Hockey despite playing a demanding schedule of back-to-back matches. Most notable was the team’s determination, effort and enthusiasm. The tournament proved to be an extremely positive and enjoyable experience for all.

A tough day all in all, with 140 minutes of Hockey played by each team (more than at the U18 tournament!!). Well done to all the U13 girls for their efforts this season. We now look forward to the Under 16s National Hockey finals on the 26th-27th February, and the U12 County Hockey tournament on 28th February.
