U4 Design Day Challenge

Plant pots, soap dispensers and puzzles were among the prototypes designed and created by budding young engineers as part of a special design challenge.

On Monday 14th February a group of Upper 4 Creative Engineering and Design pupils enjoyed a busy but very productive day working through the Design Museum’s Design Ventura Challenge.

Split into teams, the girls worked together to respond creatively to a tight brief, through careful research and planning followed by gaining experience in rapidly generating and physically prototyping their ideas. They then refined their designs into viable products complete with branding and a business plan.

The day was rounded off with a pitch of their concepts to a panel of judges.

Mr Gabriel Tansley, Creative Engineering and Design teacher at Headington, said: “Congratulations to all who took part – we were hugely impressed with all the ideas presented along with the enthusiasm and imagination displayed by all the teams. Well done!”
