U14As Win the Oxfordshire County Hockey Tournament

Girls in the U14 Hockey team are celebrating after being named first in the county.

The U14A Squad had an amazing start to their season with a win at the Oxfordshire County Tournament.

The tournament began with a match against Oxford High School. The U14 team started off strong in this match with some good passing phases of play to progress to an early lead. They then capitalised in the second half from a short corner – finishing the game with a 2-0 win.

Next up, Headington faced a strong St Edward’s side. This match was fiercely contested, with Headington defending well against a strong St Edward’s attack. Headington then turned the ball over in St Edward’s half and scored a wonderfully-constructed goal in open play leaving the first half at 1-0 to Headington. St Edward’s came back in the second half, wanting to level up the score line. Headington defended well against a strong St Edward’s attack and had the opportunity from a short corner to score, but narrowly missed. St Edward’s came back to level up the score to 1-1.

Headington played Tudor Hall in the last fixture of the tournament. Headington came out strong with some wonderful attacking play down the right-hand side of the pitch. Headington capitalised on an early goal in open play to put them up 1-0. Tudor Hall fought back and won two short corners – some amazing saves from the Headington keeper kept Tudor Hall at bay.

Mrs Megan Minton and Mr Alex Williams said: “We’d like to say a massive thank you to all the players who represented Headington at the County Tournament.

“A huge congratulations on placing first in the county!”

The girls will now move on to the Regional Tournament at Wellington College on Tuesday 22nd November.
