U11 Cricket v The Manor

U11A match report by Nancy L:

On Thursday 11th May, we had a very close match against The Manor Prep School. Headington team played extremely well, taking lots of wickets and got them out quite a few times. We had a few catches, one of them was by Alice right on the boundary. She took her chances for a very high catch and luckily she caught it! Fortunately she didn’t step behind the boundary once she had caught it, or else it would have been a six! Abby also took a catch that was coming very hard and straight at her. Which was very brave. We also did some great fielding, doing great throws and quick reactions.

Our batting was also amazing. The batting pairs were: Abby and Lily opening, then Sophie and Alice, after that was Phoebe and Charlie and finishing was me (Nancy) and Audrey. This game of pairs cricket is quite hard when you bat because each pair only gets two overs, but we still got some good boundaries. All of the pairs hit lots of fours and some even sixes. The Manor were very good fielders so this was great batting from the whole team.

The final score was so close. The Manor won by three runs! Overall I think we all played and worked as a team very well.

U11B match report by Annabel P:

The Headington B team played their first match of the season, against The Manor Prep School. All of our cricketers played very well in all fields, but I would like to highlight some people for the things they were best at.

We all thought that the people who stood out at batting were Mairi and Summer. Mairi hit some amazing shots including two sixes and Summer took risky runs that paid off, she also hit quite a few fours. In bowling I thought Emi and Harper did exceptionally well and worked really hard to get it accurate, and we all know this is a hard skill to get correct. We were also very strong in our fielding and were constantly focusing on the ball. Catherine and Iona were really intent on getting the Manor out and seized every chance they got to get the ball. They also worked really well together in batting.

The finishing score was: Manor-226, Headington-244. We are all pleased to have won and excited for our next match.
