Tom Howell’s Ordination

Our school chaplain was ordained in a special ceremony at Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford, on Saturday 29th June.

The Rev Tom Howell was among 30 deacons ordained in the stunning and spiritual surroundings of Oxford’s cathedral, following a lengthy process of study, reflection and prayer.

Rev Howell, who came to Headington after a period of mission work in Africa and also teaches Biology at the School, said: “I’m very grateful for the support the School has given me in pursuing the vocation to ordained chaplaincy.

“It was a great privilege to see some of the Headington students and to see colleagues and friends come to the cathedral on Saturday to witness my ordination.

“My hope and prayers remain what they’ve always been: that the girls and staff of Headington continue to hear and hopefully respond to the incredible story (and invitation) of God’s love, as shown in the person and teachings of Jesus.”

As part of Rev Howell’s continued training as a deacon, he will be attached to St Andrew’s Church, North Oxford, where he will be preaching regularly. His first address as an ordained minister will be at our Foundation Day Service on the theme of identity and he will continue to lead the spiritual life of Headington School.
