Spring Concert ’24

More than 150 young musicians came together to raise the roof for Headington’s Spring Concert.

The Music Department offered another great evening to the Headington community on Thursday 21st March.

The Main Hall turned into a stage for ensembles and orchestras, performing excellent renditions of music from baroque to pop and jazz.

The programme included string and guitar ensembles, as well as groups of percussion, brass and flute players.

The two main school choirs enchanted the audience with memorable evocative moments and effervescent interpretations of well-known songs.

An important part of the Spring Concert is the Concerto Competition. This year, Alice (L6) on cello, Jingtong (U5) on cello and Florence (L6) on flute were the soloists accompanied by the Symphony Orchestra.

Mr James Penman, Head of Academic Music and the conductor of the orchestra, said: “It is extraordinary to see so many girls committed to producing such great and challenging music in such a short space of time. In just a few weeks from the Heats and with weekly rehearsals, the Symphony Orchestra was able to give a convincing and engaging performance, which sounded as if played by professionals.”

After impressive performances from all three Concerto Competition finalists, Alice was declared the winner.
