Sports Day 2025

The inaugural Headington Rye Sports Day was held on Monday 30th June, marking a historic and celebratory moment for the newly merged school.

With the sun blazing down, the energy on the track, the young sportswomen gave their all in pursuit of personal bests, House points and sporting glory.

Despite the very hot weather, spirits remained high throughout the day. While the afternoon relays had to be cancelled due to the scorching temperature, this did little to dampen the enthusiasm of competitors and supporters alike.

From start to finish, the day was a vibrant display of athleticism, House pride and creative costumes.

Each year group saw some standout performances in the Victrix Ludorum competition, which celebrates our most successful all-round athletes.

In Year 7, Evie (Jones House) stormed to victory with the maximum 30 points across three events. Jemima (Coutts) followed closely in second place, with Isobel (Jones) in third.

The Year 8 competition was a tightly contested affair, with Seren (Coutts) emerging victorious by just a single point ahead of Alice (Jones), while Lily (Sumpter) secured third.

The Year 9 category showcased fierce competition too, with Dana (Tucker) achieving a perfect score to take the top spot.

Isabella (Moller) followed in second, and Theadora (King) and Millie (Moller) shared third place.

In Year 10, Isla (Tucker) led the pack with 27 points, ahead of Freya (Tucker) and a tie for third between Peace (Rendall) and Aoife (Coutts).

Finally, in the Year 12 category, Harriet (King) took the title with 27 points, just ahead of Amelie (Dunn), while Kate (King) and Ruby (Fender) shared third.

A highlight of the day was the introduction of a new event, the 300m sprint, which saw immediate school records being set.

In the junior category, Orla, Year 8, posted an impressive time of 45.28 seconds. Millie, Year 9, claimed the inter title with 47.08 seconds, while Molly, Year 12, set the senior benchmark with 48.20. These pioneering performances now become the standards to beat in future years.

One of the most memorable moments came from Evie, whose throw of 32.65m shattered a school record that had stood since 1978.

The previous mark of 29.34m had endured for nearly five decades, making Evie’s achievement truly remarkable and worthy of a place in the Headington Rye history books.

As the results were tallied, Tucker House emerged as overall champions, finishing with 322 points, just ahead of Porcher and Coutts.

King and Sumpter were tied just behind them, showing the strength and depth of talent across the school.

Every House brought passion and commitment to the competition, with standout moments from all ten.

Director of Sport Ms Claire Caruth said: “While the sun may have forced a few last-minute adjustments, the true spirit of the day shone through; friendship, confidence, fierce competition and the joy of being a part of our community.

“Sports Day 2025 was more than just a sporting event; it was a celebration of everything Headington Rye has become and the exciting, sporting future ahead.”
