Sports Awards 2025

Some of Headington Rye’s keenest and most talented young sportswomen gathered to celebrate their achievements in a glittering Sports Awards evening.

The evening was presented by Director of Sport, Mrs Claire Caruth, in the Main Hall and nominees were joined by parents and sports staff to crown winners of a string of awards. The special occasion gave the nominees a chance to dress up in formal dress under professional lighting and mingle with fellow pupils, staff and special guests at a drinks reception.

This year saw a host of impressive performances and achievements across a wide range of sports – from the water and courts to the track, artificial pitch and gym.

Throughout the event, attendees were treated to a series of speeches highlighting standout moments from key sports, exceptional individuals, and team successes. Pupils were celebrated for their dedication, progress, all-round contributions, and outstanding accomplishments in sport.

Headington Rye Oxford was also lucky to welcome David Ames, Team GB Men’s’ Hockey Captain whose international Hockey career has spanned over 16 years. David has been a central figure in the GB squad alongside competing at the very highest levels of the sport including multiple Olympic Games and European Championships.

David talked to girls and parents during the drinks reception, but then went on to speak on stage about how his career started and his memories of being supported by his parents and community during his school years to become the athlete he is today.

His talk focused on celebrating Headington Rye’s young athletes and how excited he was to hear about the girls’ achievements.

Mrs Caruth said: “I was very impressed at my first ever Headington Rye Sports Awards. It was a wonderful occasion and a fantastic opportunity to celebrate our young sportswomen.

“Every term has been fast-paced and action-packed and I can tell you, it is a privilege to witness so many girls being active, engaged, and thriving in their sport.

“Every training session, match, practice whether it’s at before school, lunchtime, after school, or during the holidays—has been filled with energy, enthusiasm, and commitment.

“Well done to all of our nominees and winners and thank you to everyone in our amazing PE Department for their efforts not only at the awards ceremony, but throughout the year.”
