Ready, steady, cook for university

Sixth formers arrived for their Cooking for University Elective to find themselves faced with a paper bag full of ingredients to simulate what life may be like when they are living at university.

Each bag contained a different set of ingredients which had the potential to make a balanced meal. Without instructions and within 45 minutes, a variety of meals were prepared including pork and chorizo fried rice, macaroni cheese, puff pastry margherita pizza, salmon and vegetables, bacon, mushroom & pepper scrambled egg, roast chicken and vegetables, spicy chicken pasta base, bacon and pea risotto, Mexican meatballs, tuna pasta bake and herb-coated salmon with roasted vegetables and fried noodles.

All our L6 girls studying A Levels choose two electives to supplement their studies, which range from practical skills like cooking or dance to academic enrichment such as practical chemistry, Dragons’ STEM or introduction to Italian.
