Professor Cecile Fabre at Philosophy Café

Students at the Philosophy Cafe had a taste of what a first-class university tutorial is like when they were joined by Professor Cecile Fabre from Oxford University to discuss the topic ‘The Ethics of Gossip’.

Professor Fabre spoke for a short while, covering themes ranging from the benefits of gossip to its harms, and then presented students with several scenarios in which they were asked to judge for themselves whether the gossiping portrayed was acceptable.

The discussion that followed was sophisticated and enjoyable.

Philosophy teacher Mr Simon Drew said: “Our students threw themselves into the debate and learned a great deal! We very much look forward to inviting Professor Fabre back to school next year on the topic of Political Philosophy.”
