Poetry by Heart

On Friday 3rd February the Hive Lecture Theatre was filled with excitement and anticipation for the final of the L4 Poetry by Heart competition.

All five forms of the L4 were competing for the best group poetry performance of ‘Invictus’. The audience saw expertly-synched chanting in unison, original choreography, streamers, lifts, echoes and more!

The individual competition involved five students: Lola, Chloe, Amelia, Elsa and Phoebe declaiming different poems, for the prize of the winner filming their performance and being entered in the national Poetry by Heart Competition.  Judging the entries were Head of L4 Mr Alex Rogers and Head of Lower School Mrs Dianne Bates-Brownsword.

Mrs Gemma Maybank, English teacher at Headington School, said: “It was lovely to see students collaborating so well and performing with poise and confidence.

“Many congratulations to all who performed with verve, collaboration and courage! We owe a lot to the esteemed judges for their nuanced and thoughtful deliberation and feedback, and to all the English staff for their behind-the-scenes support, rehearsal and encouragement. “
