Oxford Town and Gown 10k

On Sunday 11th May, Team Headington Rye Oxford fielded a team of runners at the Oxford Town and Gown 10k run in aid of Muscular Dystrophy UK.

Parents, alumnae, staff and pupils went out onto Oxford’s picturesque streets to run, cheer and soak up the sun for the fantastic event.

It was easy to spot the team members as they sported the famous Headington Rye horse logo t-shirts!

The route took runners past historic landmarks, university buildings and beautiful parks throughout the city centre.

In the morning, the Junior 3k run was open to U16s with some incredible results. Olivia (Year 9) placed second in the girls category and 20th overall, with Audrey (Year 8) one place behind, finishing third in the girls category and placing 26th overall.

Runners in the 10k race did fantastically well in the blazing sun and notable runners must be mentioned; Drama teacher and Head of Year 8 Mr Alex Rogers ran it in an amazing 36.41mins, placing 36th overall (out of 5,134 people) while PE teacher Miss Pip Horlock placed 26th in the female category (2,435 female runners) with a time of 42.58 mins.

External Relations Trustee Mrs Helen Batchelor said: “Thank you to all who participated, whether as a runner or cheering from the sidelines.

“It was a fantastic day and we were lucky with the glorious weather! It was wonderful to be able to celebrate this exciting occasion with the wider Oxfordshire community, all in aid of a fantastic cause, raising funds for Muscular Dystrophy.

“Next year, we hope to see even more participants join the ranks of Team Headington Rye!”
