Oxford Essay Success

A pair of gifted Sixth Form classicists are celebrating success in an essay contest.

Angelina and Katerina (L6) both entered the 2020/2021 Classics and Ancient History Essay Competition at St John’s College, Oxford University.

The essay competition ran for its tenth year this year and posed tough questions on classical literature, ancient history, archeology and philosophy which the participants had to choose from and write about. The essay questions were set and marked by Oxford University fellows Dr Emma Greensmith (Fellow in Classical Literature), Dr Georgy Kantor (Fellow in Ancient History), Dr Alison Pollard (Lecturer in Classical Archaeology) and Prof Alison Hills (Fellow in Philosophy).

This year’s competition saw over 200 entries and both Headington students were commended for their efforts and invited to meet the St John’s tutors virtually while Katerina was also awarded with a category commendation.
