Oxbridge Offers

Eight Headington girls have taken the next steps towards their future after receiving prestigious offers from Oxford and Cambridge universities.

While offers for most UK universities are made gradually over the coming weeks, Oxford and Cambridge have now made all their offers, with three Headington students now headed for Oxford and five for Cambridge. This includes two girls from the Headington class of 2023, who have applied for 2024 entry.

They include Head of Day and former Headington Prep Head Girl Zara Jones, who has received an offer to study English at Trinity College, Oxford. Zara joined Headington in Year 4. She said: “It was a crazy journey and I’m super excited and thrilled that I get to stay in Oxford for another three years.

“The support with the application proves has been absolutely amazing, everyone has been so supportive.”

Alexandra Cutmore, Head of Boarding, has secured an offer to study French and Philosophy at St Hugh’s College, Oxford. She said: “I am really excited to explore further a subject I have been doing since Primary School but also Philosophy which I have never formally studied.

“I am also excited about being surrounded by people who are also really passionate about what they are studying and what they are learning.”

Rebecca, who joined Headington in Year 5 in the Prep School, has secured an offer to study Engineering at Murray Edwards College. She said: “I wanted a subject where I could do a lot of Maths but it wasn’t pure Maths so this for me is a chance to study a ‘real world’ kind of Maths.”

Academic Scholar Bethan received an offer to study Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic at Girton College, Cambridge. She said: “You spend so long working to get there and when you do it’s amazing. To be able to study something new is really cool and Cambridge is such a beautiful town.

“Being able to start over in a new place and have some different experiences will be really nice.”

Congratulations also go to Esther, who will study French at Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford, and to Eleanor for securing a place to study Medicine at Clare College, Cambridge. Joining in the celebrations remotely were Charlotte and Clemmie from the Class of 2023, who both received 2024 offers for Cambridge in Classics and Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic Studies respectively.

Assistant Head Academic Academic Mr Alex Thomson, who co-ordinates Headington’s Oxbridge programme, said: “Huge congratulations go to each and every member of our Upper Sixth who have worked so hard to gain offers in the subjects and at the universities of their choice. These include offers for Oxbridge and the Russell Group but also for competitive courses and institutions across the UK and all over the world.

“It’s an intense and sometimes daunting process and it has been wonderful to see some of their hard work paying off. We are extremely proud of them.”
