New Designers Exhibition in London
On 3rd July, eight Year 12 and two Year 11 Textiles students from Headington Rye School had the enriching opportunity to visit the New Designers exhibition in London.
This annual event showcases the work of final-year design students from across the UK, making it an ideal destination for budding textiles students to gain real insight into the next steps in their creative education.
The exhibition was not only visually inspiring but also an incredibly valuable research opportunity.
Students were able to explore a vast range of innovative textiles work, from surface pattern design to sustainable fashion, all under one roof.
Engaging with recent graduates provided the chance to ask questions about their creative processes, university experiences, and advice for the future – insights that are particularly relevant as students begin considering their own UCAS applications and career paths.
The atmosphere was buzzing with creativity and ambition and Headington Rye students returned full of fresh ideas for their A Level coursework.
The visit sparked discussion around materials, techniques, and presentation, with many students taking notes and photographs for future reference.
Overall, this trip was an excellent experience that bridged classroom learning with the wider world of contemporary design.
It encouraged students to think beyond school, imagine their own futures in the design industry, and start shaping their personal design identities.
It was an inspiring and highly beneficial day for all involved.
