National Poetry Day 2020

Headington Prep School became a hub of poetic vision on Thursday 1st October. The younger children learnt their own rhymes and conquered any stage fright that they may have had, to perform from memory their verses of prose. From ‘Little Miss Muffet’ to ‘The Owl And The Pussy Cat’, ‘Little Bo Peep’ to ‘The Queen of Hearts’, everyone had a go and they all enjoyed sharing the poems with their friends. They were fuelled with delicious snacks at break, which fortunately evaded the eyes of the roaming band of Highway Rat teachers. Some were even lucky enough to enjoy a Football lesson with a funky chicken!

The girls also enjoyed a virtual assembly which introduced the house poetry competition which is currently running until 14th October 2020. Pupils will be writing their own poems with the theme of ‘Vision’ and we look forward to listening to these poems in due course. As part of the day, the girls’ contributions helped to raise a fantastic £262.20 for The Parasol Project, an Oxford based charity helping disabled and disadvantaged children as well as young people experiencing, or at risk of, social exclusion.
