Prep Musical Mornings and Afternoons

Parents and carers enjoyed a host of musical mornings and afternoons as Year 3, 4 and 5 took it in turns to share performances on stage.

The Year 3 Musical Morning began with a performance of ‘Regress’ by ‘InAir’, whose guitarist Aaron visited the pupils earlier in the term to talk about being a professional musician and being in a band.

The children really enjoyed singing this song through the term and were really keen to share it with their audience when the music morning came round.

This was followed by a huge range of instrumental and vocal performances. The audience were treated to songs such as ‘Love Story’ and ‘Austin’, and were serenaded with pieces on trumpet, piano, guitar, recorder and more.

Highlights included Pia and Aurora working together to play Hot Cross Buns on cornet and ukulele, Christine performing a regal rendition of ‘Jupiter’ on the piano, and Jemima singing ‘When I Grow Up’ from ‘Matilda the Musical’.

After Sophia took to the stage to play violin, accompanied by her mum on piano, the whole year group returned to sing ‘Wings’ by Little Mix, an anthem of self-love that they performed with infectious joy.

Year 3 Music teacher Bella Brown said: “It was so wonderful to see such a range of instruments, and such creativity and confidence in all the performances. Well done Year 3!”

Year 5 truly excelled themselves in this year’s annual Music Afternoon, delivering a delightful and varied programme that celebrated their musical progress and creativity.

The audience was treated to a wide range of instruments on display, including horn, flute, violin, clarinet, piano, drums, and voice.

The concert opened with Tilly performing a beautiful rendition of the ‘Theme from Titanic’ on the horn, setting the tone for a wonderful afternoon.

One of the standout moments was the original composition ‘Flowers’, written and performed by Aimi, Hattie, Sienna, Mhicko and Alice, with Immy accompanying on piano.

Head of Music Mrs Aimee Evetts said: “Their song was performed with confidence and expression – a brilliant example of collaborative creativity.

“I particularly loved our drummers who absolutely rocked the concert with truly brilliant performances.”

Isla gave a powerful performance of ‘I Was Made for Lovin’ You’ by KISS, and Sophia impressed everyone with her confident and energetic version of ‘Master of Puppets’ by Metallica.

To close the concert, Mrs Lindsay Stuart led the children in a four-part performance of ‘Engine, Engine No. 9’, a vibrant and dynamic piece that linked perfectly to their classroom work on the Blues.

Mrs Evetts said: “It was a fantastic way to end a concert full of talent, energy and joy.

“Well done to all the performers – what a celebration of Year 5’s musical journey!”
