Lunar New Year Celebrations 2024

Members of Headington’s community came together on Monday 5th February for a colourful celebration of the Lunar New Year.

The Hive was transformed into a hub of celebration, bringing together pupils and parents from both the Prep and Senior schools for a showcase of cultural performances and a delightful dinner, celebrating the rich traditions of China, Hong Kong and beyond.

To kick things off, Prep School pupils took to the stage and wowed the audience with their performance of the Dragon Dance to mark the start of the Year of the Dragon.

Following this act, Chinese opera singer Shaohua Li, captivated the audience with a mesmerising vocal performance. The audience were then treated to a performance from Prep School’s Headington Harmonics, performing the song ‘Jasmine Flowers’.

The entertainment continued with spellbinding dance performances by pupils Joyce (U6) and Angelina (L4), with a blend of traditional moves and stunning costumes holding the audience’s attention.

Bringing the programme to a close, students Maya (L6), Yarrow (L6), Bridget (L5), and Sally (U6) performed soulful songs in Mandarin and Cantonese.

After the performances, guests were treated to a delicious Chinese dinner, featuring a variety of traditional dishes that earned praise for the catering team’s, as always, fantastic efforts.

Miss Isabel Lingard, Development Manager at Headington School, shared her thoughts on the event, saying, “The evening was a great success, providing a wonderful opportunity for our school community to come together, celebrate our strong bond with our community, and build meaningful connections with our peers.”
