Intrepid adventurers achieve D of E awards

Headington’s Duke of Edinburgh adventurers went on an expedition to the New Forest to obtain their silver award over the weekend of the 26th and 27th June.

Earlier this year, the cohort travelled to Uffington to get in some much-needed practice and to feel fully prepared in the lead up to the final trek in the New Forest.

Eighteen girls went on the final expedition and each of them completed the gruelling task of navigating a 20k walk each day over challenging tracks and terrain. The girls were also very lucky to see a huge variety of wildlife on the trip including wild ponies and deer – however the ticks were definitely less welcome!

Seventy per cent of the cohort have now signed up and immediately begun their training and tasks towards their Gold D of E Award.

Miss Anisha Charania, who leads the D of E programme at Headington said: “They were a fantastic group and thoroughly enjoyed our expedition despite all the blisters! We didn’t even get wet over the two days which was a bonus. Well done to everyone who took part.”
