Hockey Inclusion Festival

Headington School hosted Inclusion Hockey Festivals together with Oxford Hockey Club across two days at the start of March 2023. These were the first Hockey festival events since before the Covid-19 pandemic.

The event was an amazing opportunity to open the school gates up to a number of local schools who don’t have the same PE / hockey provision. The attendees were given a taste of Headington’s superb facilities and coaching.

On the first day, at the secondary school festival, the coaches were joined by Matthew Arnold and Rye St Antony, and on second day, they were joined by six primary schools: St Nicolas, St Andrew’s, Horspath, St John Fisher, St Frideswide and St Joseph’s.

Mr Alex Williams, PE Teacher and Hockey Specialist at Headington School, said: “We hosted this with our partner Hockey club Oxford Hockey Club who are a great option if anyone is thinking about joining a Hockey club outside of school.

“It was great to have ten of Headington’s own top Hockey players come and join in the two days, to help with the coaching. Thanks must go to all these excellent sports leaders, but also thank you to Charley, Jon, Simon, and David of Oxford Hockey Club.

“We had nearly 100 pupils over the two days and it was a real privilege to be able to open our doors up. For me it was one of the most rewarding things I have done and I hope we can make this a regular fixture.”
