Headington at Henley Royal Regatta 2019

Headington’s Boat Club had two boats racing in the final and most prestigious regatta of the year, the Henley Royal Regatta.

This year, alumnae came together to create an Alumnae 8+, a first for HSOBC. Qualifying for the Remenham Cup, on the 28th June, the alumnae had a little over a week and a half to train together alongside their already busy schedules to compete at Henley. They didn’t win their first race, though it was hard-fought, against a strong Tideway Scullers’ School crew however it was simply marvellous to see the Headingtonians all in the same boat and rowing under Headington colours once more, something the boat club hopes to continue in the future. Watch the race here.

Headington also had a quad scull on the water across the festival of rowing.

The girls first defeated Surbiton High School to take them through to the semi-finals and the next day of racing. Their second day of racing meant facing two other competitors, the Tideway Scullers’ School and Shrewsbury School respectively who were both convincingly defeated, taking Headington into finals’ day on Sunday 7th July. Facing a well-drilled Latymer Upper ‘A’ crew, the Headington girls finished runners-up in the Diamond Jubilee Challenge Cup after a fantastic few days of racing.

Well done to everyone involved. You can watch the quad’s first and second round races, semi-final and final.
