Headington 1st XI Hockey v MCS Match Report

Headington’s 1st XI Hockey team got off to a flying start with a confident performance in their first match of the year.

The girls’ initial game, on Tuesday 17th September in Marston, was against local rivals Magdalen College School. Headington got off to a flying start and managed to score two fantastic goals before the end of the first half, both coming from brilliantly-organised short corners. MCS however were not down and out and as the second half began they scored to get themselves back in the game. It looked as if Headington were going to run away with it once more with large periods of ball possession and some fantastic skills, however they struggled to convert chances against a gradually improving MCS defence. Eventually, their opponents managed to squeeze in one more goal before the final whistle, finishing the game with a 2-2 draw.

It was an amazing performance from both sides and all the girls involved. Mr Alex Williams, Headington’s Hockey specialist said: “Well done to all, it was a great display of Hockey. Special shout out to captain Alexia, player of the match Jemima and our rock at the back Ffion for amazing individual performances.”

Overall it was a wonderful evening of Hockey and we look forward to hosting MCS for the return fixture.
