Head Girl Hustings 2021

Twenty-three sixth formers took to the virtual stage to put across their bid to become a member of Headington’s Head Girl trio.

Nearly 70 girls applied to be prefects this year and all those who put themselves forward for one of the key roles had one minute to make their case for a place in the trio at the event on Wednesday 3rd March in the School’s virtual Head Girl Hustings.

A first for the yearly head girl hustings, this year’s entire event was held online via recorded video. As well as testing their presenting and speaking skills, it added an aspect of technical challenge to the event.

The other positions of responsibility up for grabs including leading competitive or boarding houses or with a focus on different aspects of school life such as Art, Chapel, Dance, Befriender, Alumnae or Charities.

As well as the hustings event, Head Girl hopefuls will face a public vote and interviews for shortlisted candidates before the final positions are announced. The process gives an excellent introduction to many of the skills required for leadership positions later in life.

Pastoral Director of Sixth Form Mr Simon Drew, said: ‘I am very impressed with the calibre of each applicant. All the performances were excellent and there will be some very difficult decisions to make!’
