Evacuees at Swindon Steam Museum

On Monday 30th September Year 6 enjoyed an immersive Second World War experience at the Swindon Steam Museum. Dressed as evacuees, the girls took part in various activities, including a role play where some lucky girls were chosen by host parents at the train station. They also had the opportunity to find out what it might have been like to spend the night in an air-raid shelter. The children were shown the toileting bucket and sang war-time songs to keep spirits up! It was an authentic experience where they were lucky enough to converse with people who were children during the war, including one man who discovered his house had been bombed when he came out of the air-raid shelter. Hopefully this day out will inspire them in their project work this term.
