ESSA Regional Championships

Sunday 11th May

In a whirlwind of excitement and aquatic prowess, the Headington Year 6 Swim Team participated at the highly anticipated ESSA Regional Swimming Championship held at the Spectrum Pool in Guildford.

The competition was fierce as swimmers from schools all across the South East dove headfirst into the pool, their determination evident in every stroke. Spectators cheered enthusiastically, creating a vibrant atmosphere charged with anticipation.

The Headington girls, led by their coach and 200m British Backstroke Champion, Mr Dedrick, showcased their talent and dedication from the very start. Each swimmer displayed remarkable skill and unwavering focus. In the Medley Relay, Team Headington surged ahead with lightning speed, establishing an early lead that they maintained almost throughout the race. Their flawless teamwork and synchronised exchanges propelled them to the final.

In an incredibly fast pool the times were always going to be quick and Headington were on the pace but with the ultra fine margins involved in swimming they were just pipped at the post. The Freestyle Relay mirrored the Medley as they breezed into the finals but just ran out of steam at the end. They did set a very rapid fastest time of the year though.

Mr Jamie Vigano, Head of Prep Sport, said “It was a wonderful occasion in which the Headington girls came away with their heads held very high knowing they had performed amazingly.”
