Cross Country National Finals

Headington’s intermediate Cross Country runners collected a string of medals on their way to the national finals.

At the St Helen & St Katharine relay races, three of Headington’s six teams competed medalled, with the U13s achieving bronze, U14s silver and U16s gold. The intermediate team followed this with a third-place finish at Stowe School in the English Schools’ Athletics Association regional round, with Florence, Izzie and Megan all placing in the top 10 and qualifying for the national finals in Leeds.

The team travelled up to Leeds the night before the event on 3rd December to compete against the best runners in the country. It was a challenging course with several steep hills.

Florence placed an exceptional 11th and Megan, still with a year to go in this age group, came in next in 35th. Overall the team came seventh out of 27 schools. It is certainly a really exceptional achievement to come in the top 10 schools in the country.

Well done to all involved in Cross Country this term and especially to our ESAA national finalists of Florence, Izzie, Megan, Sophie, Freya and Mya.
