County title for U16 Hockey team

Headington’s U16 Hockey team are county champions following a recent tournament where they won each game.

On Wednesday 2nd October a break in the weather allowed Oxfordshire’s U16 County Hockey Tournament to go ahead.

The intrepid U16A team set off for St Edward’s School feeling confident after a recent run of victories.

Ffion, U16A team captain wrote: “After a car journey filled with rousing camaraderie and some of the greatest tunes that have come out of the music industry, it is fair to say we were ready to go out all guns blazing for this tournament.”

After an initial victory against an underestimated Cokethorpe, the girls played and closely defeated the home team, St Edward’s. The final match was against Bloxham, who again had flashes of brilliance before Headington regrouped and showed their class with seven goals, with hat-tricks from both Bizza and Kate. Ffion described the final win as the “cherry on top of the cake”.

“We arrived as keen, enthusiastic hockey players and we left as champions.”
