Chocolate joy
Year 3 visited Cadbury World to support their inquiry question: What is the real cost of chocolate?
They walked through the rainforest, following in the ancient footsteps of the Mayans who first discovered the power of the cacao bean.
In a ‘bean to bar’ workshop, they learned about the production of chocolate today and how the process has changed since Victorian times.
The children learned about how Fair Trade supports cocoa tree farmers.
And of course, they got to sample some delicious chocolate!
Aurora said: “I liked exploring the rainforest where the Mayans’ lived. It felt like I was in a rainforest. I also liked working out how much things would cost in cacao beans.”
Emily said: “I loved writing my name in chocolate!”
Laila said: “I really enjoyed the 4D experience. It was really clever how they made the chairs move so it felt like you were moving.”
Mrs Bev Frewin, Year 3 teacher, said: “The children really enjoyed the day and were fascinated about the history of chocolate production. It was a fantastic experience for them all.”
