Celebration of Piano

The recent Celebration of Piano was a resounding success, showcasing a wealth of musical talent.

Gifted musicians presented works ranging from the distinctive counterpoint of Bach to the iconic melodies of Madonna. Both classical masterpieces and lesser-known gems offered something for every listener.

One of the highlights of the evening was an exciting six-hand rendition of Rossini’s ‘Ouverture’ to ‘The Barber of Sevill’e, a performance that drew both smiles and applause from the captivated audience.

The atmosphere in the hall shifted effortlessly throughout the evening. There were moments of soft and delicate playing during Beethoven’s ‘Sonata’ and Rachmaninoff’s ‘Musical Moment’, characterful hammering rhythms of Bartók’s and Khachaturian’s music and the dance-like energy of Chopin’s Polish waltzes and Albeniz’s Spanish melodies. The emotional depth and technical brilliance of the performances made it easy for the audience to forget that they were listening to students and not experienced professionals.

The concert is a testament to the incredible commitment to music shown by the performers, and the continued support they receive from Headington Rye.

Head of Piano Dr Rossella Rubini said: “We are already looking forward to the next Celebration of Piano, where we can travel the world and across centuries through the magic of music.”
