Celebration of Percussion

On Tuesday 10th March, Mr Keith Fairbairn, Headington’s Percussion teacher, put together a wonderful programme of music for parents and students.

Two young drummers from U3 kicked off the concert in style with popular music from ‘Coldplay’ and ‘Blur’. The next performer, another U3 musician, wrote and performed her own amazing composition named ‘Funky Forest’.

The music throughout the concert regularly shifted between popular music and classical compositions. At one point, the audience heard a rendition of a ‘Guns ‘N Roses’ song, which then moved on to a composition from Bach and then back to another hard-hitting track from ‘AC/DC’. This constant change in style made for an exciting and unpredictable evening.

Highlights of the concert included Rachel’s beautiful marimba solo and Sabrina’s complex kit solos. The concert concluded on a high with Percussion Ensemble’s performance of Stevie Wonder’s classic, ‘Don’t You Worry ‘Bout A Thing’.

Miss Bethany Johnson, Graduate Music Assistant, said: “I can honestly say that I’ve not been to many concerts with such an eclectic variety of music and with such an amazing amount of energy throughout.”
