Biology Field Trip to West Wittering

On Monday 20th June, 46 excited L6 biologists headed out on a field trip to the beautiful sandy beach of West Wittering.

The young biologists were met by local experts and undertook an investigation into sand dune succession, which involved scrambling up and down the dunes and sampling the local plant species as well as important abiotic factors like wind speed.

Afterwards, they compared the biodiversity of the lower and upper salt marsh on the eastern side of the spit. The girls will be using these data to produce an in-depth report on the field trip over the next week.

Biology teacher Victoria Vaccaro said: “It was a really fantastic day out – the weather was absolutely fantastic and everyone enjoyed being totally immersed in the local habitat.”
