Baroque Music Workshop with Abingdon School

Thirty Headington GCSE and A Level Music students attended a Baroque Workshop, hosted at Abingdon School’s Amey Theatre on Thursday 10th October.

The day was led by conductor Jeremy Summerly who was working with musicians from the renowned ensemble, ‘Instruments of Time and Truth’.

The interactive workshops outlined the development of Baroque instruments and delved deeper into the contexts of two current GCSE set works: Bach’s ‘Brandenburg Concerto No.5’ and Purcell’s ‘Music for a While’.

The Headington girls and Abingdon boys finished the day singing along, SATB (soprano, alto, tenor, bass), with ‘Instruments of Time and Truth’ to four choruses from Handel’s ‘Messiah’, including the ‘Hallelujah’.

Mr Tom Anderson, Acting Director of Music said: “It was an invaluable experience and a fantastic day for all the girls to be involved in.”
