Abingdon Dinner Debate

On Thursday 13th June, Headington welcomed 20 students from Abingdon School for the second of this year’s Dinner Debates.

The Headington team was hoping to build on their convincing victory from the last visit to Abingdon School in November 2018.

The students debated on the motions: “This house believes it is right to test four year olds” and “This house believes that mass protest is the most effective way to get politicians to act on climate change”.

The students from both schools spoke eloquently and passionately. The debates were followed by a delicious three course dinner where the students were able to continue the debates and socialise further.

Congratulations to all of our speakers (Katerina, Georgina, Michaela, Olivia and Annie) who won resoundingly on the first motion and narrowly lost by one vote on the second. Further thanks to Amy and Izzy for their roles as chair and timekeeper.

Mrs Alice Barrett, Academic Director of Middle School at Headington, said: “It was a pleasure to see how engaged all attendees of the debate were.”
