School of Rock production
A cast of 67 Lower School pupils put on a show-stopping performance of ‘School of Rock’ to four sell-out audiences.
Pupils also took roles in hair, make up, costume, props, sound technician and a range of backstage roles. The cast and crew had been rehearsing the show since mid February.

I attended the opening night of School of Rock with music written by Andrew Lloyd Webber. Our production of it was headed by Mr Alexander Rogers and co-directed by Year 10s Clara, Maia, Elsa and Eloise.
From an electrifying set, smoke cannons and all, to the feat that was controlling 40 mic packs all at once, it’s safe to say that the production was one of Headington Rye’s finest, successfully capturing the “stick-it-to-the-man” energy of the musical.
As far as acting went, from the opening number, it was hard not to get captured in the liveliness and eccentricity of the ensemble from big moments to small but witty gags.
Audrey struck me as Dewey Finn, not only because of her amazing musical talent and vocal stamina but also by her ability by the end of it to truly show how much Dewey had become an important mentor to so many of these kids.
Isla-Rose as Principal Mullins washed the audience over with emotion with her powerful ballad ‘Where did the Rock go.’
It’s hard to believe that anybody in the audience didn’t walk out of that theatre afterwards not being amazed by the myriad of talent that came from each area of the production, and as always, I look forward to seeing what the department creates next year.
