Engineers Inspire at Oxford Brookes
Headington Rye pupils took centre stage during International Women in Engineering Day at Oxford Brookes University, showcasing their growing passion for STEM and motorsport innovation.
Pupils from Years 7 and 9 embraced the opportunity to explore cutting-edge automotive engineering first-hand, participating in interactive workshops and gaining exclusive access to state-of-the-art testing facilities. Their enthusiasm was infectious as they delved into the world of high-performance vehicles and precision design.
A particular highlight of the day was the chance to interview world-leading female racing drivers from the prestigious Formula 1 Academy.
The pupils’ thoughtful questions and confidence impressed both the drivers and event organisers, reinforcing the message that the future of engineering is inclusive and dynamic.
In a special feature, the BBC captured the girls’ reflections on the importance of women in engineering, highlighting their perspectives in a broadcast that celebrates the next generation of changemakers in STEM.
The day also marked the potential of a promising new partnership between Headington Rye’s Green Power Car Club and female Mechanical Engineering undergraduates at Brookes. This mentoring link would inspire, support and connect students as they continue to develop their skills in sustainable engineering and design.
