Dominic Cummings Talk
On Wednesday 11th June, three representatives of the Year 12 Politics class, accompanied by Head of Politics Mr Matt Gow, attended an illuminating lecture organised by the Pharos Foundation, featuring Boris Johnson’s former special adviser and assistant, Dominic Cummings.
Offering interesting insights on the alleged, gaping chasm between the perception of what goes on inside Westminster, and the deceiving reality, the lecture encouraged discussion surrounding the political status quo of the UK, invaluable to the A Level Politics curriculum.
Echoing the Hegelian dialectic, Cummings also examined different potential pathways to reform Whitehall, ultimately criticising the current state of affairs and claiming that “a system which should protect voters actually protects itself.”
The Year 12 ambassadors enjoyed a gorgeous view of the Sheldonian’s historic ceiling and thoroughly enjoyed observing the discussion that followed the lecture, which will definitely contribute to further debate in class.
