Nursery Forest School Fun

During this year, Forest School has continued for Nursery on a weekly basis ensuring the children have had the opportunity to develop their holistic learning skills of confidence, perseverance, collaboration and creativity.

In addition, they develop excellent gross motor skills through climbing, swinging, den building and using ropes and tools. Their ‘understanding of the world’ is enhanced as they visit the woods in all seasons, observing change, new life and decay with flora and fauna.

On our final visit this academic year, we spent the whole day on-site lighting a fire and toasting marshmallows, looking for minibeasts, exploring the area known as ‘Snowdrop mountain’ and then played a senses game, where one person is blindfolded and their partner has to give them something to feel and they then guess what it is.

It was fantastic to have our picnic lunch in the woods and end the session with a story and songs.

Forest School really does enhance the learning in all seven areas of the EYFS curriculum and above all, the children feel happy and it has a fantastic impact on their sense of well being.
