Headington’s Boarding Bubble

As schools closed to most on 5th January 2021 following the announcement of another national lockdown, Headington’s boarding houses remained open for those boarders able to return. This term the School welcomed back 30 students from U3 – U6. Normally, the School is home to around 200 boarders on site but most are currently, like our day girls, accessing remote education from homes both in the UK and all over the world.

As the Headington Boarding Bubble got to grips with remote learning from the boarding houses, or, in the case of our U5s & U6s, completing their mocks, it was a new experience for all. Fortunately, they still had access to the facilities around school for on-site activities including Badminton, Gym, Tennis and Swimming.

Miss Catherine Chan, Assistant Housemistress, said: “The girls have really enjoyed their weekend games of laser tag.

“They have also had some amazingly fun movie nights, made some fantastic ‘dens’ and have both collaborated and competed when it comes to creating meals for lunch and dinner times.

“Lately, with the snowy weather, we had a huge amount of fun making snow men and snow animals, a few girls even made ‘Totoro’ our of snow, a character seen in one of our recent movie nights. We also made snow angels, had snowball fights and more all on the school site which was a beautiful setting and glistened in the winter sunlight.

“We’re so proud of our boarding community for their resilience and keeping high spirits during a difficult term of online learning while still at school.”
