Iris Classics Festival

The Classics Department took 11 girls to the Iris Festival of Natural History at Cheney School on Wednesday 27th March.

At the event, they were able to explore medical artefacts in the Archaeology Zone. There was a wide range of stalls hosted by the British Museum, Museum of London and Natural History Museum, among others.

They discovered some of the more interesting cures used for illnesses in the Ancient World and considered the medical equipment they possessed. The girls were also lucky enough to attend a talk by Professor Helen King of the Open University on the use of magic in Ancient Greek Medicine and compared their use of amulets and other charms to placebo tablets and lucky objects in use today.
