Author gives creative writing workshops
Headington School was thrilled to welcome Oxford-based author Daisy Johnson to lead a series of three workshops for our senior creative writers this month. Daisy is the author of the critically acclaimed short story collection ‘Fen’ and made history in 2018 when she became the youngest ever author to be shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize for her novel ‘Everything Under’, a clever reworking of myth and fairytale set in and around Oxford’s canals.
Over the course of the workshops, girls had the chance to produce a range of pieces of writing inspired by fairytales, memories and characters, as well as hearing Daisy read from her own work and answer questions about her life as an author. Nearly 30 keen writers from Middle and Upper School attended these workshops – as well as a few scribbling staff members.
Head of English Mr Stephen Dilley said: “Daisy was a hugely inspiring tutor and we have all come away from her workshops with new ideas and approaches for our own writing.”
