Celebration of Music

Friday, 10 February 2017 - 4:00pm

Headington's Celebration of Music festival kicked off this week with two concerts.

First up on Tuesday 7th February was a dramatic Celebration of Percussion event, with eight girls impressing on everything from the traditional drum kit to the xylophone, from timpani to the marimba.

Proceedings started with a bang as Lizzie and Alisha played AC/DC and Oasis respectively, before girls performed a mixture of modern and classic tracks.

The second of our concerts was the Celebration of Voices on Thursday 9th February. During the fantastic event, which was standing room only, 19 girls performed solos.

Music ranged from Bach, Vivaldi and Handel to Schubert, Schumann and Finzi to musical theatre items. Sisters Felicia and Tiffany Chan sang a delightful duet  of Mendelssohn’s 'I would that my love' while Cantabile performed selections from 'Les miserables' and concluded the concert with Jay Althouse’s 'Go forth with a song'.

Next up after half term will be celebrations of harp and guitar, piano, and woodwind and brass.
