Being a Headington girl extends far beyond achieving academic success. It means being able to develop as a person by getting involved in enjoyable and challenging activities beyond the classroom and this ethos extends to boarders as much as to day girls. Students have extensive opportunities to enjoy extra-curricular activities. Girls can choose from the many clubs and societies which take place during their free time. Numerous after school opportunities include:
- Dance and drama
- Orchestras, bands and choirs
- Swimming, trampolining and other sports
- Combined Cadet Force (CCF)
- Craft Club
- Comedy Club
- Fitness Club
- Health Club
Throughout the year we organise various parties within each house and for the whole boarding community. One of the highlights is International Evening – a celebration of the cultures within the boarding community. Social events with other schools such as Abingdon School are also popular.
Weekends and free time
Located in Oxford and with London only 55 miles away, boarders enjoy exciting cultural trips to London theatre land or art galleries. They can also join in more energetic activities – ice skating or Duke of Edinburgh’s Award weekends for instance - here in Oxford.
Plenty of time, however, is set aside for girls to relax, enjoy their surroundings and simply be themselves. They might choose to watch a DVD, bake in their house kitchen or chat with friends from another boarding house.
We try to make each birthday extra special and encourage girls to make cakes for their friends. They may also organise a get-together in the house. Some girls choose to go out to tea or while others prefer to celebrate in their house.
Depending on their age, girls are allowed out of school unaccompanied at certain times during the week and at weekends, provided we have permission from parents and at the Housemistress’s discretion.
