Sport

Addington ShowjumpingSport is an important element of life at Headington. We believe that every pupil has the ability to achieve sporting success, and that many can excel in one or more sporting activity. The main objective of our sports programme, therefore, is to identify and develop every pupil’s natural skills, recognising that sporting achievement can often prove to be the key to success in broader school life.

Physical fitness, performance, team skills, leadership and sportsmanship are cultivated both on and off the field. We offer an extensive range of extra curricular clubs at lunchtimes and after school. Girls are actively encouraged to participate in both a recreational and competitive capacity. This provides the opportunity to develop skills and enjoyment discovered in PE lessons, as well as providing time for team training and coaching for matches.

In addition to a full programme of inter-school fixtures, girls are encouraged to compete at county and national level. Headington girls currently compete in Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Cross Country, Equestrian, Fencing, Hockey, Netball, Rounders, Rowing, Swimming and Tennis.

J16 Rowers at HeadingtonEach year over 70 girls achieve representative Honours at County level and above with several girls competing nationally in a variety of sports, whilst many more represent their house in school competitions. Our boat club, the HSOBC, makes us one of the leading girls’ schools for rowing in the country.
