International Baccalaureate comes to Headington

IB World School LogoWe are delighted to announce that Headington School has been authorized to become an IB World School and to teach the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme as an alternative to A levels starting in September 2009.

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme or IB is a well-established pre-university course that offers a challenging alternative to traditional A levels. The IB programme is particularly attractive for those girls who are keen to continue to study a broad spectrum of academic and other disciplines after their GCSEs. For hard-working independent learners eager to expand their horizons, it provides a complete educational programme that is both challenging and fulfilling. Girls who choose the IB will develop international awareness and independent thinking and working skills, in a context that rewards their co-curricular, cultural, sporting and community involvement.

At Headington, we value diversity of talent, character and culture. We prepare girls for life in a fast-changing world, fitting them for the challenges that they will face in the local, national and international community. The education that we offer focuses on the needs of the individual, ensuring that each student is encouraged, challenged and valued. Our decision to offer the IB, in addition to traditional A levels, stems from our desire to enable each girl to make the educational choices that are right for her. We recognise that the IB is not right for everyone, but we are keen to offer each girl the opportunity to choose the post-16 education that will best prepare her to fulfil her own aspirations and ambitions.
