In Years 1 and 2 (Kindergarten and Transition), a gentle progression into more formal school life is provided.
Play continues to enhance learning, adding practical understanding to classroom lessons. There is an hour each of Mathematics and English every day and children read aloud daily. Additional subjects introduced include Science, History & Geography, Religious Studies, Art and Design Technology.
There is a gradual move towards the concept of homework, with small numbers of spellings to learn at home. These are tested, introducing the idea of learning and recalling facts whilst beginning to build study skills in a measured and unthreatening manner.
By this stage pupils happily speak in front of the class and also recognise the importance of sitting and listening to others. Achievement and positive behaviour are rewarded by much coveted stickers.
